Dale Earnhardt Jr. has eight top-five finishes in 22 career starts at Martinsville..."

It's difficult to tell why so many seem so consumed with the idea of Kimi Raikkonen trying his hand at NASCAR. The 2007 Formula One driving champion has announced plans to tackle the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series beginning next month at Charlotte Motor Speedway, driving a limited schedule of events for the new ICE1 Racing Team. His self-professed plans call for a quick progression to Sprint Cup competition by the end of the year, though that itinerary could be pushed back once he actually straps into a NASCAR machine for the first time.
You remember Gillett, the 190-pound silver spoon who carried water for his father, George, while they laid waste to the once-proud franchises known as Evernham Motorsports and Richard Petty Motorsports. After arriving in an explosion of hype and grandiose promises, the Gilletts proceeded to run Ray Evernham out of his own building and reduce Richard Petty from 'King of Stock Car Racing' to 'impotent ceremonial figurehead' in a matter of a few short months. Over-leveraged and overhyped, the Gilletts became a NASCAR version of Smokey and the Bandit's Big and Little Enos; bulling their way through a series of horrible decisions that left a wide swath of unpaid bills and broken promises in their wake. Concord, N.C. (March 31, 2011) – This weekend in Martinsville, Greg Biffle will make his 300th Sprint Cup start. His first Sprint Cup start was at Auto Club Speedway on April 28th of 2002 where he started 29th and finished 13th in a No. 16 Jack Roush-owned Ford. Over the course of his 299 starts, Biffle has accumulated 16 wins, 66 top-five finishes and 114 top-10 finishes.

Sirius NASCAR Radio's Sirius Speedway with Dave Moody has learned that 2003 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Rookie of the Year David Stremme will return to the series at Richmond International Raceway later this month with the new Inception Motorsports team.
“The plan is solid,” said Stremme, who has a combined total of 20 Top-5 and 52 Top-10 finishes in the Sprint Cup and Nationwide Series driving for Chip Ganassi Racing, Penske Racing, Rusty Wallace Racing and Braun Racing. “We’re going to pick our shots this season, earn respect and establish ourselves as a competitive race team. Then we’ll make a points run in 2012.
Team owner Rick Ware said the decision came when several team owners reported being approached by Earnhardt about driving for them and bringing the team’s sponsor, Fuel Doctor, along with him. “(Earnhardt) and his management company (have) been shopping around for another team, (saying) that sponsorship was coming with them,” said Ware. “This aggressive move… has resulted in a breach of contract. Rick Ware Racing will now put the focus on finding a driver for the #1 Fuel Doctor Chevy at Martinsville and for the rest of the season.”
Multiple published reports today say that 2007 Formula One champion Kimi Raikkonen will complete in a limited schedule of events on the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series this season with a new team owned in part by Foster Gillett.

David Ragan started Sunday’s race from the sixth position, but the UPS Ford started out pretty tight around the two-mile track. David was only able to run the high lane early in the race because of the handling of his car. On his first trip down pit road, Crew Chief Drew Blickensderfer and the UPS crew made an air pressure adjustment and put on four fresh tires. David was running inside of the top 15 when he made his first pit stop of the race.
After those first changes, David started to move around the track to try and find a lane with speed, but the car was still snug. During the next few pit stops, the UPS team made track bar adjustments and took out a shim in the right front to try and get the car to handle better. David was back out on track running around the top 20 after those changes were made.
As the race progressed and passed the halfway point, the UPS Ford got a bit too loose and David needed more rear grip in the car. The team made additional changes with adding a rubber to the left side of the car, and David was back out on track still racing around 20th position.
With just over 30 laps remaining in the race, the UPS team continued with air and wedge adjustments to get the car to free up for David. David had said over the radio that for the final 25 laps it would be better for him to have a loose race car than to try and wheel a tight car around at the end of the race. The changes didn’t seem to get the car where it needed to be to move up through the field, and the UPS team finished 22nd in Fontana.
“We just made adjustment after adjustment and never could make it right,” said David after the race. “There at the long part of the race when we had some clean traffic, we were trying to tighten the car up because it was too free. Then when we got into traffic during those last few restarts with all the dirty air, our UPS Ford just got too tight. You know, me and Drew and our team engineer have just got to sit down and take a look at the adjustments we made and see where we can make it better. I think we had an opportunity to finish better than we did.”
David and the UPS team head to Martinsville Speedway next weekend sitting 22nd in the points. Be sure to catch the race on Sunday at 1 p.m. Eastern Time on Fox.

Multiple sources close to the situation say team owner Kevin Buckler met with Jack Roush yesterday to discuss a deal that will result in TRG receiving cars and engines from Roush-Fenway Racing, beginning at Texas Motor Speedway April 9.
The battle between Jennifer Jo Cobb and her former car owner, 2nd Chance Motorsports owner Rick Russell, escalated to a new level today, with news that Russell has filed a police report alleging that Cobb and her crewchief, Steve Kuykendall, stole $16,000 in race parts from his Mooresville, N.C. facility.
Landon Cassill will move from the #60 Germain Racing Sprint Cup entry to James Finch’s #09 Phoenix Racing Chevrolet, beginning this weekend at Auto Club Speedway. Cassill replaces former Sprint Cup Series champion Bill Elliott, who ran the first four races of the season. Phoenix Racing originally planned to run Elliott in up to 18 races this year, but have struggled to an average finish of 23.5, with a best showing of 12th in the season opener at Daytona.
