Jack Is Back! Sprague Returns To Trucks In 2012

Jack Is Back! Sprague Returns To Trucks In 2012: Sirius XM NASCAR Radio’s Sirius Speedway with Dave Moody has learned that a shakeup in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series garage will bring three-time series champion Jack Sprague back to the sport next season.

Randy Moss Motorsports principal Randy Moss will reportedly assume full control of the team from partner David Dollar, in an effort to resuscitate the struggling operation. RMM effectively closed its doors earlier this season as part of a self-described “merger” with Germain Racing. The team’s #5 Toyota has been fielded out of the Germain shops since mid-July, with Germain driver Todd Bodine at the wheel.

Multiple sources confirm that the former Minnestoa Viking, New England Patriot, Tennessee Titan and Oakland Raider wide receiver will restructure the team that bears his name, clearing the operation’s back debts in exchange for full financial and competitive control. Dollar reportedly packed up his personal belongings and trophies earlier this month and moved back to his home state of Oklahoma.
Moss is believed to have financial backing from a yet-unnamed West Virginia coal mining magnate, and plans to field two Trucks in 2012 with Chris Showalter as General Manager.

Showalter worked as Travis Kvapil’s crewchief at RMM earlier this season, and won the Truck Series title with him in 2003. He is the only individual to take part in every race ever run on the Camping World Truck Series.

Sprague has been absent from the NASCAR garage since 2008, when he finished ninth in Truck Series championship points driving for Kevin Harvick, Inc. and Wyler Racing. His last win came in the 2007 Chevy Silverado HD 250 at Daytona International Speedway. He amassed 28 career Truck Series wins in 297 starts, along with the 1997, 1999 and 2001 series titles.

He will reportedly run the 2011 season finale at Homestead Miami Speedway for Winfield Motorsports, reuniting with former crew chief Dennis Conner. Sprague and Conner teamed to win 24 Truck Series races and three championships.

While not yet finalized, multiple sources say the Randy Moss Motorsports deal will be announced within the next 30 days. A spokesperson for Moss declined to comment today, saying the former NFL star is “a week or two away” from an announcement. Sprague also declined to comment.

UPS Extends NASCAR Partnership; Shifts to Associate at RFR

UPS Extends NASCAR Partnership; Shifts to Associate at RFR:

UPS EXTENDS NASCAR PARTNERSHIP; SHIFTS TO ASSOCIATE SPONSOR

WITH ROUSH FENWAY RACING

ATLANTA, Oct. 27, 2011 – UPS (NYSE:UPS) and NASCAR have signed a multi-year agreement for UPS to remain the sport’s official logistics partner, providing critical pick-up and delivery services for race teams, vendors and suppliers at every NASCAR Sprint Cup Series event throughout the season.

In addition to its official partnership, UPS will continue its relationship with Roush Fenway Racing as a full-season associate sponsor of the No. 99 Ford, driven by Carl Edwards.

The decision to continue with NASCAR in an official capacity for a 13th season and Roush Fenway Racing as a sponsor for a fourth season was driven by the positive growth UPS has enjoyed through its direct involvement in the sport.

“UPS has enjoyed a great relationship with NASCAR and our official status allows us to continue providing logistics solutions for other great NASCAR partners both at and away from the racetrack,” said Ron Rogowski, UPS vice president, sponsorships & events.  “The shift in our program was a strategic business decision that allows us to focus on the elements that drive the best return on our investment, including continuing our relationship with Roush Fenway Racing.”

UPS also will continue its successful customer and employee hospitality activations at select events throughout the year in addition to serving as primary sponsor on the No. 99 Ford at Kentucky Speedway.

“We are always evaluating ways to refine and enhance all of our sponsorship programs to ensure they are aligned with our business strategy and objectives,” continued Rogowski.  “While we’re making some changes to our racing program in 2012, we are confident UPS’s ongoing association with NASCAR and Roush Fenway Racing will continue to present new and meaningful opportunities for UPS, our customers and employees.”

“We are pleased that UPS will continue as a partner in our sport at multiple levels,” said Jim O’Connell, chief sales officer, NASCAR. “NASCAR works for business because our fans are among the most brand loyal in all of sports. UPS is a world-class company and one that we are proud to call our partner.”

The 2012 racing season will mark UPS’s 12th consecutive year of team sponsorship in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, the sport’s premier division.  UPS’s first sponsored driver was racing legend Dale Jarrett, who retired in 2008 after 668 races.  Since 2009, David Ragan of Unadilla, Ga., has piloted the No. 6 UPS Ford Fusion as part of the Roush Fenway Racing team.

“It has been an honor and privilege having David Ragan serve as UPS Racing’s official brand ambassador on and off the track during the last three seasons,” added Rogowski.  “David’s dedication, work ethic and personal integrity are second to none and we always will be grateful for the many contributions he and the entire No. 6 team have made to the success of our motorsports program.”

“We are very pleased that UPS will continue to partner with Roush Fenway Racing,” said Roush Fenway President Steve Newmark.  “UPS is one of the most recognized and respected brands in the world and we have enjoyed a strong relationship for many years.  Although they are restructuring their commitment, it speaks volumes that an organization of UPS’s caliber has chosen to stay a part of our partnership roster and that they recognize that Roush Fenway will continue to deliver a great return on their marketing investment.”

UPS (NYSE:UPS) is a global leader in logistics, offering a broad range of solutions including the transportation of packages and freight; the facilitation of international trade, and the deployment of advanced technology to more efficiently manage the world of business.  Headquartered in Atlanta, UPS serves more than 220 countries and territories worldwide.  The company can be found on the Web at UPS.com and its corporate blog can be found at blog.ups.com.  To get UPS news direct, visit pressroom.ups.com/RSS. For more information about UPS Racing, go to ups.com/racing.

Two Car Drafting in Dega; Ragan Finishes 28th

Two Car Drafting in Dega; Ragan Finishes 28th:

David Ragan and the UPS team started from the eighth position on Sunday at Talladega Superspeedway, and for the two-car tandem racing style this season has seen at restrictor plate races, Ragan teamed up with Matt Kenseth from the very beginning of the race. The two had a plan to work together coming into the weekend and stuck to the plan until the final laps of the race.

The two Roush Fenway Racing drivers found each other immediately on track and almost made a repeat performance of the Daytona race in July. Connected nose to tail the entire race, the two moved around throughout the field to find the best line and to also gauge how many laps it would take to pass certain groups of cars running in packs in order to be prepared for the end of the race.

On lap two, Ragan took the lead with Kenseth stuck right behind him. The two drivers switched positions in order for both teams to lead a lap for bonus points. From then on, the success of drivers moving to the front was in the hands of the driver pushing them in the tandem. While only needing to pull back from the field or out of line in order to get thetemperature down in their cars, Ragan and Kenseth were fixtures in the top 10 for almost the entire race.

With Kenseth and Ragan surviving each caution that came out for multi-car accidents, the final restart for the race came with two green laps remaining. Before the race was back to green, Ragan radioed to the crew and his spotter to check the sides of his car. When Regan Smith crashed into the wall in front of Ragan just a few laps earlier, he said that he did hit some debris and wanted to make sure his car was okay. Ragan was lined up 13th for the restart, but when the field went to green, the UPS Ford was at a loss for power and Ragan began to fall through the field. He dropped down to 28th for the final lap, which was where he crossed the finish line when the checkered flag flew.

“We’ll have to look at it,” said a frustrated Ragan after the race. “Our engine ran well all day; our car was fast and I think we had an opportunity to win. We just did not have the power. I don’t know if when that wreck happened we ran over something and it knocked a plug wire off or what happened. It was a good day, just a bad finish. Luck just wasn’t on our side.”

Ragan and the UPS team travel from the biggest track on the circuit to the smallest as they head to Martinsville Speedway next weekend sitting 18th in points. Be sure to catch the race at 1:30 pm Eastern Time on Sunday.
