2/11 :: Construction begins

2/11 :: Construction begins: "

Ah, the initial phase of construction of the 1.8-mile, 14-turn temporary street circuit is a tangible sign that the sixth Honda Grand Prix of St. Petersburg is only weeks away. Six weeks to be exact.

The installation of concrete block and fencing on Bayshore Drive at Demens Landing began Feb. 11 and workers will move south along Bayshore. Temporary street closure barricades and/or signage will be placed at the intersections of 1st Avenue South and Bayshore Drive and at 5th Avenue South and Bayshore Drive.

When construction is complete, the track will incorporate 20 million pounds of concrete and 44,000 feet of fencing - along with a section of airport runway.
